North American Risograph Conference

Caroline Paquita is a Brooklyn based visual artist, musician, WOMANIMAL, and founder of Pegacorn Press, a feminist, queer, "total-art-freaker" publishing adventure. Her current practice is a colorful melange of drawing, Risograph printing, experimental video, performance, spirituality, and beekeeping, in which alternative dimensions are created and explored.

Christopher Kardambikis explores space, process, and form through books, printmaking, and drawing. He has co-founded three artist book and zine projects: Encyclopedia Destructica in Pittsburgh, Gravity and Trajectory in San Diego, and 90 Proof Press in Los Angeles. Christopher has been an artist-in-residence at The Wassaic Project, Pioneer Works, The Art Students League, The Millay Colony, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Vermont Studio Center. He received his BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and MFA from the University of California, San Diego.

Christopher is the host of Paper Cuts, a program on Clocktower Radio that documents the contemporary world of zines and DIY publishing. In the fall of 2016, he joined the faculty at George Mason University as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Navigation Press.

Issue Press is a small independent publishing and curatorial project initiated in 2010. It is run in Wietor's spare time and operates with a elastic publishing mandate, primarily concerned with works that trade in humor, history, and exploration of place.

In addition to Issue Press, George runs stencil.wiki, an open platform for sharing information about Risograph printing and is, along with Matt Davis, the co-organizer of NARC.

Liana Jegers and Clay Hickson are illustrators working in Los Angeles. They run Tan & Loose Press, a publishing project focused on Riso printed books and prints by artists from all over the world. Their most recent venture, The Smudge, is a small monthly “newspaper” aiming to highlight current social and political issues and raise money for a variety of charities and causes.

Colour Code is an independent print studio and publishing platform established in 2012 by Jenny Gitman and Jesjit Gill. They publish art zines, comics and print editions with a focus on collaborating with artists, and experimenting with the risograph. They also co-organize Zine Dream, a small press book fair now in its 11th year.

Colour Code offers artist friendly riso and screen printing services to anyone who comes their way.

Jo Frenken is an artist, designer, and tutor connected to the Jan van Eyck Academie ever since he started as a participant in 1977. He served numerous print-related roles as well as teaching at the Academy of Architecture for 20 years. In 2011 he became the head of Charles Nypels Lab and in 2014 initiated and organised the successful Magical Riso, a biennial Risograph conference at the Lab.

Johanna Maierski is an illustrator and a cartographer. She grew up in Berlin and studied architecture and urban research. She runs COLORAMA, a publishing house and risoprinting-studio based in Berlin since 2015. COLORAMA is dedicated to the collaboration, the observation and the production.

The publications feature the works of current comic-artists and an ongoing research about the means of carthography and storytelling.

Since 2016, Johanna is hosting CLUBHOUSE together with Aisha Franz, a monthly collaboration project where a small group of artists creates a limited edition of folded zines in one day. In august 2017 CLUBHOUSE was extended to CLUBHOUSE-WEEK, involving 30 different international artists to work on a big anthology that was entirely drawn, printed and bound within one week.

Matt Davis is the founder and director of Perfectly Acceptable Press, a Risograph print studio and publishing house in Chicago. Besides doing contract printing for artists all over North America, Perfectly Acceptable publishes 8-10 titles per year spanning the genres of comics, artist books, and essay with an emphasis on narrative and craft.

Matt is the co-organizer of NARC along with George Wietor.

Panayiotis Terzis (b. 1983, Thessaloniki, Greece) lives and works in New York City. Recent exhibitions include: Endless Biennial, Elizabeth Foundation, New York; Nieves and Innen Zine Library, Swiss Institute, New York; and Spring/Break Art Show, (curated by Andrea McGinty) Moynihan Station, New York. His work has been featured in publications including Vice Magazine, Mould Map II, Zine Soup, Salt Hill, Gigantic Worlds, Cosmos, and Creeps Annual, and he has worked with American Apparel, Digitaria, and other brands. His artist books, zines and print editions are held in the permanent collection of the MoMA Library, the Brooklyn Museum, the New York Public Library and the collection of Stanford University among others. He teaches printmaking and color theory at the School of Visual Arts and Parsons.

Scott Roberts is a cartoonist who creates and prints experimental Riso art comics. He also makes animated films, and founded the DePaul Animation program in Chicago. He shares a home and studio in Evanston with the cartoonist Keiler Roberts, their daughter Xia, and Crooky the dog.

Yewon Kwon is a printer and publisher currently residing in Chicago, and recently received their BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2017. Besides being the studio assistant at Perfectly Acceptable Press and a part of the fellowship program at Spudnik Press Cooperative, Yewon also edits, curates, prints and publishes and the bi-yearly collective publication Pallor Pink, which aims to publish work from many different artists and highlight a variety of topics, from cultural heritage to a universal love for dogs.
